KENT ISLAND, Md. (WMAR) — A Maryland State Police helicopter rescued a patient from a cruise ship in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay Tuesday night.
The call came in around 9:40 p.m. for a patient suffering a medical emergency aboard an AIDALuna cruise ship.
Helicopter crews arrived around 10:25 P.M., hovering about 120 feet overhead the ship deck, which was just south of the Bay Bridge near Kent Island in Queen Anne's County.
A medic was lowered onto the ship to triage the patient, and secure them in a hoisting the device, at which point both were lifted back into the helicopter.
The patient was then transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
It's unclear what kind of medical emergency the patient had, and where the ship was headed.
AIDALuna is owned by Carnival.
