Traffic was a mess on I-83 in Baltimore County Monday morning as two tractor-trailers caught on fire.
Both accidents happened in northbound lanes, and the first fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. on I-83 at Belfast Road. Officials with the Maryland State Police say the tractor-trailer was carrying plastic materials, making the fire much more difficult to extinguish.
Officials were detouring all traffic to Shawan Road. It is still unclear when all northbound lanes on I-83 will be open due to the fire.
Eight hours after the tractor-trailer fire broke out, all lanes on I-83 between Schawan and Belfast were finally opened.
The second tractor-trailer fire was on I-83 just past Timonium Road. Details are still limited, but officials say all lanes are now clear from this incident.
