Sykesville man killed when SUV overturns into stream in Marriotsville

MARRIOTSVILLE, Md. — A 30-year-old Sykesville man was killed when his SUV left the roadway and flipped over into a stream in Marriotsville, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said.

Emergency personnel responded at about 1:03 p.m to reports of a crash on Marriotsville Road #2. A Maryland State Trooper was first to arrive on seen, finding a red Chevrolet SUV that had left the road and overturned and was resting upside down in a stream. When the trooper got to the car, its lone occupant, Robert. H. DeCoursey, was unconscious.

The trooper and a sheriff’s deputy kept DeCoursey’s head above the water until EMS personnel arrived and they were able to extricate him from the car. Life saving measure were immediately undertaken, but DeCoursey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner responded to the scene, as did members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office CRASH Team. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Sheriff’s closed Marriotsville Road #2 between Marriotsville Road and Arrington Road.

Members of the Maryland State Police, and Emergency Medical, Fire, and Rescue crews from Sykesville, Gamber, and Howard County assisted the Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies in responding to the scene.
