Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating an incident that left a Cecil County student burned on a school bus on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews and investigators were dispatched to Hack's Point General Store located in Earleville when they found the student with burns to his hands.
An investigation showed that while the school bus was on route to drop off students from Bohemia Manor High School, the students on the bus notified the driver that there was a cell phone on the floor smoking.
They say the 18-year-old student picked up the phone from the ground and in an attempt to throw the phone off the bus, he received burns to his hands.
The student was later transported to Union Hospital of Cecil County with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the phone explosion.
