Executives with Anne Arundel County are hoping a grant they received will help fight gang and youth violence.
Steve Schuh announced Monday that the county was awarded a three-year Safe and Thriving Communities Grant for $738,000 given to them by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Anne Arundel County stands united in our efforts to build greater community understanding and acceptance,” said Schuh. “This grant from the federal government will help in our efforts to address the problems of youth violence and gang activity in the Annapolis area."
The grant will help fund efforts to address youth gang violence in Annapolis through partnerships with the county, the City of Annapolis, programs like Anne Arundel United, and local nonprofits.
Officials plan to start the effort by creating a strategic plan for communication, outreach, and programming in partnership with youth, residents and other community partners. The County will then implement a variety of programs aimed at reducing and eliminating youth and gang violence in Annapolis.
