TOWSON, Md. — Comptroller Peter Franchot personally congratulated Calvert Hall High School's baseball team for capturing its first Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association conference championship title in six years.

Franchot also presented the team with a proclamation, to honor the victory that their head coach, Louis Eckerl, attributes to a great group of student athletes and coaches.

"We had a great year this year," said Eckerl. "We were 24-6 overall and 19-2 in our league. We had great senior leadership. I had great assistant coaches. You can't lose if you have good assistant coaches and good players."

The Cardinals defeated Gilman School 4-2 in the championship game in May. They secured the programs 28th title since 1929.
