Marylanders whose primary residences were damaged in May 2018 flooding may be eligible for disaster relief assistance provided by a new state program.

Flood victims must live in Howard, Baltimore, Frederick, and Washington Counties, as well as Baltimore City. Homes must be permanent, year-round residencies. Rentals and second homes are not eligible.

The assistance covers the cost of rehabilitating or rebuilding the home, correcting code issues, elevating the structure, improving energy conservation, or making accessibility upgrades. Grants are worth up to $5,000 per household.

Those applying for the funds must be able to show proper documentation of their ownership and complete an application provided by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. More details can be provided by contacting the DHCD.

Applications must be received by Oct. 31, 2018.
