A man has been sentenced to 12 years in Federal prison for sex trafficking two young girls in Maryland.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, 25-year-old Roland Chick Akum also known as "Rayne," drove a 15-year-old and 17-year-old girl to a motel in College Park, Maryland to engage in sexual acts. He would use a website called "Backpage" to market commercial sex and advertise the young girls while he kept a portion of the proceeds that customers paid the girls.

Reports show that on July 7, 2017, the 15-year-old girl left Akum and the hotel and contacted authorities.  He later continued to exploit the 17-year-old girl until his arrest on August 10, 2017.

He was later released on bond the following day and purchased a one-way plane ticket the following month to Cameroon. Authorities arrested Akum on October 3, 2017, and he remains in custody.

Akum was sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for two counts of sex trafficking of a minor.
