Before you set the kids loose in the neighborhood this Halloween, there are a few safety tips you should go over with them.
The most important tip is traffic rules.
In most areas businesses and volunteers will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters so, remind the kids to stay on the sidewalk, don’t run between parked cars and don’t constantly run back and forth across the street to get to houses.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says more kids are hurt or killed on Halloween from getting hit by a car compared to other nights before or after Halloween.
Other tips to keep in mind:
* wear something reflective so cars can see you
*carry a flashlight.
*only go to well-lit houses.
*travel in groups.
If your kids are going without you, make sure they have a route planned and tell you when they think they’ll be home.
