Instead of cats and dogs, The Whispering Rise Farm and Animal Sanctuary in Freeland, Maryland is home to more than 60 pigs. Yes-pigs!
Founder and CEO Jeff Lambert and his volunteers work endlessly to ensure this sanctuary is a true pig paradise.
Lambert gets so many requests to save abandoned pigs, he must turn many away. He blames poor breeding practices, and he says that breeders often tell prospective owners their pigs will stay very small. Lambert stresses there is no such breed as a "tea-cup" sized pig. Once the pigs grow to their normal size, some misled owners no longer want the larger pets.
