Blind pedestrian hit and killed in Mt. Airy Friday night

MT. AIRY, Md. — Maryland State Police continue to investigate a fatal pedestrian crash that killed a blind man Friday night.

At a little before 8:50 p.m., a fatal car crash involving a pedestrian happen on Ridge Road at Windermere Way. According to the preliminary investigation, 49-year-old Rodney Lenard Featherstone, who was blind, was in the northbound lanes of Ridge Road. At the same time, a blue 2004 Ford E-350 van, that was being driven by 41-year-old Henry E. Suazo Serrano, was also traveling northbound on that same road.

Featherstone, who was wearing dark clothing, was directly in the travel path of the Serrano's vehicle, so he was unable to avoid hitting him. After being taken to Carroll Hospital Center, Featherstone ended up succumbing to his injuries.

This investigation is ongoing and Trooper First Class Pettis and Corporal Lantz are the primary investigators in this collision.
