Customers who may have purchased frozen broccoli at Giant Foods should check the sell by date as the company has issued a recall.

Giant is voluntarily recalling 16-ounce bags of Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts after a supplier raised concerns about potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall affects bags with a sell by date of March 15, 2020 and the UPC code 68826700926.

The grocer has removed all affected products from its shelves and encourages all customers to return any of the affected bags of frozen broccoli to their neighborhood store, or call customer support at 1-888-469-4426.

There have been no reports of illness yet, and Giant considers the recall precautionary.

Consumption of foods containing Listeria can cause listeriosis, a rare but potentially deadly disease, though healthy people rarely catch it.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. It is of particular danger to pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
