The Maryland State Senate unanimously passed a bill on Thursday that could save you money when buying your prescription drugs.
SB 576, which was sponsored by Senator Kathy Klausmeier, would make Maryland the fifth state to ban the gag rule. The gag rule prohibits pharmacists from telling consumers about the least expensive way to buy their prescription drugs.

Vincent Demarco, the president of the Maryland Citizen's Health Initiative sent the following statement on the issue:
This gag rule is a shameful practice which keeps Marylanders from being able to afford the drugs they need. We call upon the House of Delegates to quickly follow the Senate's lead to keep Maryland in the forefront of making prescription drugs more affordable for Marylanders.
The House Health and Government Operations Committee will hear the same bill later in the afternoon.
