When you head out on a road trip, you know there are plenty of tolls you have to pay along the way. Now, you could eventually wind up paying more tolls, or new taxes, based on how far you drive along the east coast.
The I-95 Corridor Coalition will test a new system in Delaware and Pennsylvania that would charge drivers based on the number of miles traveled as either a replacement for on in addition to the gas tax. They say it's a way to make more money for major road maintenance.
A similar effort is already underway on parts of the west coast, where volunteers are paying $0.15 per mile in place of the state gas tax.
