BALTIMORE — A former Baltimore Police officer was handed a one year suspended jail sentence, stemming from reckless endangerment charges back in August 2020.
Christopher Nguyen was convicted in August of 2022 for allowing a man named Kenneth Sommers to violently assault another man, identified as Wayne Brown in the 4200 block of Kolb Avenue.

He could've faced up to five years in prison and/or a fine of $5,000, but a judge instead sentenced him to 60 days behind bars.
According to the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office, Nguyen's attorney filed a motion for the judge to reconsider the sentence.
Despite objections from prosecutors, the judge decided to grant the motion, allowing Nguyen to avoid jail time.

On top of the one-year suspended jail term, Nguyen is being ordered to serve 18 months of supervised probation.
The judge was swayed by Nguyen's resignation from the Baltimore Police Department on Friday.
As part of his probation, Nguyen is required to complete implicit bias counseling and to have no contact with the victim or his family.
