Medstar Health debuted its new surgical pavilion Tuesday.

The $80 million dollar pavilion is at Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center in Rosedale.

The 82,000 square foot space includes 14 surgical suites, including a hybrid operating room, 20 post anesthesia care unit bays, 21 support spaces, extra wide hallways, dedicated parking, and a drop off circle.

The operating rooms are digitally equipped and have a robust video system to enhance the independent residency program for the next generation of surgeons.

"Having state of the art technology, but also patient centered care is really going to revolutionize the way that we teach our trainees and have them leave and be the avant-garde for the future of medicine," said Maggie Arnold, Md, FACS, the Director of the General Surgery Residency Program.

Crews broke ground on the surgical pavilion in December of 2018. The pavilion is the last phase of the $300 million modernization investment that began nearly 10 years ago.
