Pikesville man charged with human trafficking

Howard County Police say a Pikesville man was arrested for human trafficking. Around 1:30 a.m. on March 23, police pulled over 29-year-old William. O. Murray of Arrowhead Rd. Police believed he was having a medical emergency related to drugs and arranged for him to be taken a hospital. A 34-year-old female passenger was also in the car who police suspected may be a victim of human trafficking.

After investigating, police believe at least nine woman were trafficking victims of Murray. He place dads on the website, “Backpage”, known for prostitute, according to a police release. They believe he would set up “appointments” for the woman, drive them all over the state to different hotels and force them to perform sexual acts for money, which he would take. Police believe Murray set up a system where the female victims were reliant on him for heroin, food and sleep and would control their consumption.

Police arrested Murray once he was released from the hospital. He has been charged with human trafficking and prostitution; and has been released from the Howard County Detention Center on $15,000 bail.

Police also found him in possession of $500 and many cell phones.

Police also noted that they are working with local service organizations to provide help, drug treatment and shelter for the female victim.
