SNAP benefits to continue to be accepted at MD farmers markets

Posted

A last-minute deal will allow farmers markets across Maryland to continue accepting SNAP benefits for the next six months.

Novo Dia Group runs the Mobile Market Plus app and processes mobile SNAP payments made at farmers markets. In July the company announced the USDA would no longer support its services, which would force it to shut down. A non-profit came forward and funded the program for another month.

Just days before Novo Dia Group was going to be forced to end its services The New York Farmers Market Federation announced it would help keep the program afloat through February of 2019.

The deal with Novo Dia Group means everyone who uses the Mobile Market Plus app, not just those who live in New York, will be able to keep using it until the season ends.

Novo Dia Group's website says users will not see a disruption in services, and they are working with the New York Farmers Market Federation and a number of other groups to come up with a solution that will last for years to come.
