GREENBELT, Md. — A woman was killed on Baltimore-Washington Parkway after a fleeing car crashes into her vehicle.
On Monday, at around 9:10 p.m., units were notified by the United States Park Police Communications that a car that was fleeing from the Metropolitan Police Department was traveling north on the BW Parkway. USPP units responded to northbound BW Parkway at I-495 and found a serious traffic crash.
According to the investigation, a vehicle was traveling at high speed north on the parkway at the ramp to the inner loop of 495, when it struck the back of a vehicle that was stopped on the right shoulder.
The female occupant of the stopped vehicle, 27-year-old Brittany Burks, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver and only occupant of the striking vehicle, 24-year-old Darnell Basset, of Northeast DC, was transported by helicopter with serious injuries and is currently in custody. Investigators are still attempting to make contact with the next of kin.
