Cutting Through the Chaos: Getting students ready for college

Posted

College campuses are getting ready for your students, and you should be getting your kids ready for them.

Mia Redrick, the Mom Strategist, says thanks to Bed Bath and Beyond, it can be one-stop shopping.

"They make it super easy.  You get a registry just like you would for a wedding and you go through the store and you click on whatever it is that's on your schools list that's already registered with Bed Bath and Beyond."

And it gets even easier.

"Once you have the supplies you can actually pick them up in the closest Bed Bath and Beyond located closet to the college."

While you're picking up school supplies, do your homework. Redrick says prepare for an emergency before one happens.

"While you're dropping your child off at college identify, a pharmacy that accepts your insurance."

Another tip, make it easier for you and your student to manage their -well - your money.

"It's a terrific alternative to have a debit card and a shared banking so that you can help your kid build the muscle of spending the funds that you're putting for them appropriately. Equally, I love it in case of emergencies, the debit/visa account if you ever need to get them funds or more funds quickly it's an easy way to do that with a shared account just by transferring funds."

Once everything is set, you should be set and know when it's time to go.

"A lot of times parents linger and you gotta take those cues from your child and say goodbye.  They'll be just fine."

Mia also suggests if you can, stay an additional night when you drop off your student. It's better to be in town if they have a problem, then already on the road or back at home.
