Forty people came to BWI Thursday night with bags packed, yet they no idea if they would actually get to board a plane.
"Some deodorant and a razor,” said Colin Callahan.
They packed light, and optimistically.
“I brought shorts, sunglasses, you know, some sunscreen," James Lane said.
Everything you need for three nights away jammed into a carry-on bag.
Spirit Airlines sent out an email Monday about a giveaway, two tickets straight to sunny Florida on the company’s first direct flight from BWI to Orlando. It's free airfare and a hotel room, and lots of people were feeling lucky.
"We don't live too far away, we figured why not, let's give it a shot,” said Callahan. "We're lucky people."
“I am feeling beyond lucky,” Lane said. “Honestly, I’m feeling like they just need to say my name."
Folks could enter their names during a 2-hour period Thursday, and at 5PM one name was picked.
“Connie Yeh!”
Flight 755 was scheduled to take off at 7PM, giving Connie and her friend Annie two hours to get their tickets, get through security and board the plane for an instant weekend getaway.
"This is exciting and I really can't wait to go,” said Yeh. “Like I don't even know where I’m going to be honest, I have no idea where I’m staying or what."
Connie may have been surprised by the win, but Annie says she had a feeling they would be the ones heading south.
"I already made reservations to eat at Disney World at Beauty and the Beast,” she said. “I did that all ahead of time because I was that confident we would win."
After getting to the gate, a flurry of texts and phone calls to let people know where the pair would be the next few days.
And in no time, it was time to board. An escape from the cold for these two winners.
