BALTIMORE — An overnight five-alarm fire in Hampden has left two people dead.

Flames broke out in the 3000 block of Keswick Road around 5:30 Tuesday morning.

Approximately 10 homes were evacuated, some of them condemned, leaving a number of families displaced.

Two people initially unaccounted for were later found dead inside the original home that caught fire. Search efforts were complicated and delayed by a partial collapse, according to Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace.

WMAR-2 News reporter Jeff Morgan spoke with neighbors who said the victims were an elderly couple who struggled with mobility. Fire officials have yet to release their names.

One other person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

The cause remains under investigation.

Officials say police will remain on scene while the structural status of buildings in the block are assessed.
