BALTIMORE — The Rules and Legislative Oversight Committee has postponed the hearing for Executive Nomination of Acting Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley.
This hearing was scheduled to take place on August 15 at 5:00 p.m.
A new hearing will be announced at a later date.
Mayor Brandon Scott and councilman Issac "Yitzy" Schleifer provided the following joint statement on why the hearing was rescheduled:
In order to ensure the voices of Baltimore’s residents are front and center, the decision has been made to postpone Acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley’s confirmation hearing until after all of the planned community engagement meetings have taken place. We know that these meetings will provide Baltimoreans with the same insight we have already been fortunate to have into Acting Commissioner Worley’s vision, leadership, and deep appreciation for the communities he will serve. We both look forward to advancing Acting Commissioner Worley’s confirmation once those meetings are completed and to finally have him assume his role as Baltimore’s next permanent Police Commissioner.
