COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash on the Capital Beltway that killed one D.C. man.
That man was identified as 55-year-old Olumide Stephen of Washington, D.C.
Police say that around 2 p.m., troopers arrived at the scene of a pedestrian crash on the right shoulder of southbound I-495, prior to Baltimore Avenue.
In a preliminary investigation, troopers discovered Stephen was changing his right rear passenger-side tire when a black Toyota Prius traveling southbound struck Stephan and the rear of the car.
The 55-year-old had his hazard lights activated during the time of the crash.
Stephan was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency service personnel.
Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation and the State Highway Administration responded to the scene to assist with lane closures. Prince George’s County Fire and EMS also responded for assistance.
