PARKVILLE, Md. — The fire broke out in the ground level of the Towson Crossing apartment building just before ten o’clock on Tuesday night trapping people on the floors above.

Tiffani McLean had traveled out of state and returned home the next morning to discover her unit had been closed off and she was one of the lucky ones.

“I just know that the apartment across the hall is all burned out,” said McLean, “I am worried for my neighbors, because I know that it was two males and a dog that lived over there across the hall so I pray that they’re okay and hopefully the dog survived, you know?”

Kaila Jackson looked on from a neighboring building as firefighters did what they do best---they saved lives.

“I saw them putting a ladder up. People were standing on their balcony so they were putting ladders up and helping people down,” said Jackson, “It was just like… it wasn’t too many people, but like it was just surreal.”

We’re told paramedics transported one victim from the fire to a local hospital and several pets perished in the fire.

“There were a total of three cats and two dogs that did not survive the fire unfortunately,” said Baltimore County Fire EMT Rachelle Alexander.

It took firefighters almost an hour to extinguish the flames and the American Red Cross has come to the aid of the victims, as investigators try to determine what sparked the fire.

“I had to call my mom,” said Jackson, “I was literally shaking. My kids were in the house and they were scared and I didn’t even know what to say to to do. I was just praying everybody made it out and everything was okay.”
