BALTIMORE — Firefighters are investigating the cause of a rowhome fire which killed three young children in Baltimore.

Crews rescued five people, two adults and three children as young as one, from the fire early Saturday morning. All five were transported to an area hospital.

The three children died from their injuries. They have been identified as one-year-old Nasir Lawson, Kash Lawson, 2, and Skye Blue, 7.

Their uncle remains hospitalized, while the grandmother has since been treated and released.

"It’s definitely disheartening to hear, especially the losing of children," said Rev. J. Kevin James, senior pastor at Whitestone Baptist Church, which is a short walk from the rowhome.

James tells WMAR he connected with family members, and is urging the community to support them.

"We couldn’t keep driving, and not stop to see them," James said, "To just check on them, to see what we can do as a community to love on them at this time. Because there’s nothing we can do to soothe this pain, but to be there with them, to be present with them.”

As of Sunday, there was no word on the cause of the fire.

In a statement, Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his support and condolences.

"To the family and friends of those who perished in this fire, please know that our entire community is here to support you," said Scott. "We stand with you in your grief and offer our deepest condolences.”

Scott reminded city residents who don’t have a smoke alarm to get one for free by calling 311.
