ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A 36-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision on Monday, just before 8 a.m.

Anne Arundel County Firefighters responded to a pedestrian struck in the area of 1700 Pleasant Plains Road. Upon arrival, they found that a garbage truck had left the roadway, ejecting two people riding on the back of the truck.

Officials said that the truck was headed southbound with two workers riding on the rear platforms performing trash pickups. To attempt to give northbound traffic more room, the driver moved to the right edge of his lane. This is when his right side rear tires slipped off the roadway. This caused the truck to hit the utility pole and strike the rear passenger, knocking him off of the truck.

One of the men was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. He was later identified as 33-year-old Sinclair Gary, Jr., of the 2200 block of Barclay Street in Baltimore. The second individual, 32-year-old Dwanye Pettigrew, Jr., of the 3400 block of Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore , was also transported to Shock Trauma with minor injuries.

The driver, 26-year-old Marquise Osborne, of the 1300 block of Shirleyville Road in Arnorld, was not injured in the crash.

Officials say the preliminary cause of the crash is failing to remain in a single lane. There is no indication of excessive speed, drug or alcohol use.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.
