Maryland’s chief judge has announced steps in a reopening plan for the state’s courts with a gradual return to full operations.

Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera on Friday ordered the second phase of the plan to begin June 5 at 5 p.m., when courts will continue to be closed to the public except for those who are necessary to the matters being heard.

Phase three is expected to begin July 20. That's when the clerks’ offices in both the District Court of Maryland and circuit courts are scheduled to fully open to the public, if they are able to do so.
