This month's topic for DermMythMonday covers gluten-free skin products.
If you have a gluten-free product that you love, continue to use it. It's not harmful. However, if someone tells you that gluten-free skincare products are healthier, save your money.
Even those with a true gluten allergy (celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis) do not need to use gluten-free skincare products. The allergic reaction is triggered by the ingestion of gluten that then sets off a cascade of inflammation. Gluten molecules are too big to be absorbed through unbroken skin, so they will not set off a reaction.
