Proton Treatment for Head and Neck Cancers

Posted

A new study on the treatment of head and neck cancers provides evidence that proton therapy offers significant patient benefits for head and neck cancer treatment.

Proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation that results in far fewer side effects and significantly lowers the chances of secondary cancers. Proton therapy directly targets and stops at tumor tissue, sparing the surrounding healthy tissue from radiation. In the study, the group receiving proton therapy as compared to traditional radiation therapy had similar positive outcomes with less severe side effects.

Maryland Proton Treatment Center is the first and most experienced proton therapy center in the region. Speak with your doctor about whether proton therapy is right for you, or schedule a consult by calling 410-369-5200.
