Clinical trials may sound scary, but participants can help pave the way for new innovations in treatments and management of diseases.
State and federal guidelines are in place to ensure the safety and protection of study participants. Almost anyone can volunteer to be part of a pertinent trial - some even ask for healthy volunteers to act as a control group. Nearly all areas of medicine cannot move forward without the help of clinical trials.
If you are interested in a clinical trial, speak with your healthcare provider. The University of Maryland Medical System, which includes the UM St. Joseph Medical Center, has many quality trials to participate in. You can also download a free Healthy Living Guide with more information here.
