18 passengers transported to area hospitals after I-95 crash

A New York man could face charges after I-95 crash that left at least 18 passengers  injured Sunday afternoon. 

State Police said, Jonathan Jimenez, 36, of Brooklyn is accused of causing a multiple car crash that caused northbound I-95 to close for nearly 20 minutes. 

Just before 2 p.m. MDTA police were at a traffic stop on the left shoulder of I-95 when a vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle, and caused a third and fourth vehicle to collide. 

The driver of the fourth vehicle entered into another lane and hit the side of a 5th vehicle. Shortly after, the fifth vehicle stuck the side of a 6th vehicle before coming to a stop. 

Police said, at least 18 passengers were transported to 5 different hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. 

Two other passengers were taken to University Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment. 

According to State Police, charges are pending against Jimenez at this time.
