CARROLL COUNTY, Md. — An 83-year-old man was killed after he crossed the centerline and hit another vehicle head-on in Carroll County.

On Friday at about 1:13 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Route194 and Y Rd, for a vehicle accident.

Deputies say the crash involved a 2007 Mercury Milan passenger car and a 2003 Ford F350 hauling a large equipment trailer.

The investigation found that the driver of the Mercury Milan was traveling northbound on Rt. 194 when he crossed the center-line of the roadway into the southbound lane of Rt 194 and hit the Ford F350, which was traveling southbound.

The Driver of the Mercury Milan, Paul Horns, of New Hampshire, was taken by helicopter to University of Maryland shock trauma with life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

The Ford F350 was being driven by a 24-year-old man from Keymar and was also occupied by a 20-year-old passenger from Taneytown, who were not injured and refused medical care.

According to deputies, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
