WESTMINSTER, Md. (WMAR) — A Carroll County judge has sentenced a Westminster man to 25-years behind bars for abusing the baby and toddler of a woman he met online.
Jared McAbee, 24, was charged back in August 2018 with three counts of felony child abuse involving an eight-month-old and two-year-old.
A month earlier, McAbee met the children's mother online and moved in with her shortly after.
On August 15 of that year, McAbee was left home alone with the children while their mother worked.
That same day he called 911 to report that the baby was having trouble breathing.
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed the baby with significant head trauma and bruising. They also noticed the two-year-old had bruising to the chin.
In an interview with detectives, McAbee confessed to hurting both children.
Upon his release, McAbee will be placed on five years supervised probation, and ordered to not have any contact with the victims or any other minors. He will also not be allowed to have any unsupervised contact with his own child during that time period.
