BALTIMORE — We all know about the incredible work the Helping Up Mission does for men fighting addiction, poverty and homelessness in Baltimore, but it wanted to do more to help its residents.

They went to GBMC and on Friday, the healthcare system opened a new primary care practice at their location in the Jonestown Neighborhood.

"They had a real need," said John Chessare, MD, President and CEO of GBMC HealthCare System. "They wanted to advance primary care for the men that they were serving and they wanted a smooth coordination and connection for when their residents needed specialty care as well and GBMC was able to provide that."

Residents and alumni can now go to the center for things like immunizations and tests as well as get treatments for chronic diseases like hypertension or diabetes.

Early next year, GBMC plans to open the practice to the entire Jonestown community.
