BALTIMORE — A Baltimore City Schools staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the City Health Department.

Officials said, this is the first confirmed case related to the virus for BCPSS. The staff member works at The Historic Cherry Hill Elementary-Middle School in South Baltimore.

It has been reported that the employee has not been at the school during the closure period or when the building was used to distribute emergency meals.

Based on an investigation by BCHD when the individual began to show symptoms, the employee contracted the virus three days after schools were closed.

City schools are taking the proper steps to ensure all buildings, including Cherry Hill, are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized for use both now and when students return.
