Johnny O. orders county hiring freeze, expands Saturday meal distribution

TOWSON, Md. — Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski on Thursday made a few changes to the county’s response to COVID-19.

Following a humanitarian and emergency management assistance request from the county, the Maryland Army National Guard will begin helping with food distribution, including on Saturday's at several new locations.

Baltimore County is buying 23,100 frozen, prepacked meals to distribute to residents at 30 sites across the County, which three times the amount of locations the county had been operating previously.

Here is a list of locations handing out meals beginning Saturday at 11 a.m.:

Meals are being prepared by local caterers including Black & Gold Catering in Towson, Classic Catering in Owings Mills, Martin's Caterers in Windsor Mill, Rouge Fine Catering in Hunt Valley, and Zeffert and Gold in Owings Mills.

During weekdays, meals will continued to be given out from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at seven different locations on a first come first serve basis.

Also on Wednesday, Olszewski ordered a hiring freeze within the county with exception to Police officers, Firefighters, EMT’s, Paramedics, 911 staff, sheriff's deputies, correctional officers, and public health and human services workers.

Baltimore County projects a revenue decline by tens of millions of dollars in FY21, due to the impact of COVID-19.

Olszewski will announce his FY21 budget on Tuesday, April 14th.
