16-year-old Arundel Mills Mall shooting suspect turns himself in

HANOVER, Md. — A 16-year-old accused of shooting a man during a fight at the Arundel Mills Mall has turned himself in.

Anne Arundel County Police said on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m., Jamari Hammond went to a police station with his mother to turn himself in. Police say he was taken into custody without incident.

Officers were called to the entrance three portion of Arundel Mills Mall for the shooting on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. There, they found surveillance footage of the incident and several witnesses.

During the investigation, officers learned about a man arriving at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower torso. The man was identified as a victim of the aforementioned shooting at Arundel Mills Mall. He is listed in stable condition.

As detectives conducted interviews, they were able to positively identify a suspect related to the incident. Police identified the shooter as 16-year-old Jamari Marquese Hammond. Hammond will be charged as an adult for attempted murder and other related charges.

Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation between two groups of individuals previously unknown to each other.
