Annapolis man charged with assault, rape

A call for help for a domestic violence victim in Annapolis ultimately led to the arrest of a man for rape, Annapolis Police said.

Officers responded to a call for help in 1200 block of Ashton Court at about 3 a.m. Saturday. There they found a woman who police said was a domestic violence victim who had been assaulted.

Police arrested 28-year-old Fernando Esteves, of Annapolis, who allegedly attacked and raped the victim, police said. 

Esteves was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was taken to the Jennifer Road Detention Center and held without bond. Detectives are continuing to investigate, as police seek to bring additional charges. 

Esteves was later charged with first- and second-degree rape and reckless endangerment, police said.
