A 43-year-old Annapolis man was arrested following an investigation by Annapolis Police into the sexual assault of a child.
At about 10:25 p.m. on Monday, a child and an adult family member came to an Annapolis Police station to report the child had been sexually assaulted. The child confided in the adult that she had been sexually assaulted by a man she knew. The suspect was identified as Richard Crowner, Annapolis Police said.
Police began an investigation into the sexual assault allegations, eventually obtaining an arrest warrant for Crowner that charged him with sexual abuse of a minor, second-degree rape, third-degree and fourth-degree sex offense, and second-degree assault.
Police arrested Crowner roughly 12 hours after the crime was reported, picking him up in the 1200 block of Madison Street. He was taken to the Jennifer Road Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
