A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly sexually abusing a kid while working at Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Police say 38-year-old Mark Thoms is being charged with sexual abuse of a minor, sexual solicitation of a minor, three counts of fourth-degree sexual offense as a person in a position of authority, three counts of fourth-degree sexual offense-sexual contact, and three counts of second-degree assault.
The investigation started in April 2018 after reports of the sexual abuse. The victim says they were abused on several occasions between November 2017 and March 2018 in a home in Annapolis.
On Tuesday, Thoms turned himself into the Annapolis Police Department and is now being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools sent WMAR-2 News the following statement regarding Thoms:
“People who would prey on children have no place in our school system or any school system. We removed Mr. Thoms from his position immediately upon learning of the first allegation in April and placed him in a position in which he had no contact with children. He has been on administrative leave since June. Given today’s charges, we will move forward with further action as it regards his employment.”
