A man who "forgot" his gun was in his luggage was arrested Sunday when he went through security at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the Transportation Security Administration said.

The gun is the 18th firearm caught at the airport in 2018. In 2017, 26 guns were discovered by TSA agents.

Security discovered the 9mm handgun loaded with 13 bullets, including one in the chamber, as the luggage passed through the TSA X-ray machine. Another two magazines with 12 additional bullets were found in the luggage as well.

The Alexandria, Va. man told security he had forgotten he packed the loaded gun in his bag. He had his weapon confiscated and was arrested by Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

People who bring firearms to security checkpoints are subject to criminal charges as well as civil penalties up to $13,000.
