DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. — A knife wielding man shot by an Anne Arundel County police officer on Friday evening is a volunteer member of the Prince George's County Fire Department.
It all happened after police were called to Route 50 and Davidson Road for a possible crash.
Fire and EMS crews were first on scene and reported being threatened by a man with a knife.
Arriving officers, including 20-year vetera, Corporal R. Heller, confronted the armed suspect and ordered him to drop the weapon.
The man allegedly refused to comply, at which point Heller fired his gun once, striking the suspect.
Police and Prince George's County Fire officials have not released the identity of the suspect.
He is currently admitted at an area hospital under guard on an active warrant charging him with seven counts each of first and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
