A driver tried to hit police officers with his car after they attempted to wake him up when he was found asleep behind the wheel at an intersection in Linthicum.

Police were called to the intersection of Orchard Road and Maple Road East, where they found 27-year-old Tyler Carl Krebs, of the 800 block of Lynvue Road in Linthicum Heights, slumped over the wheel of his red Chevrolet S10 pickup as the truck idled in the middle of the intersection. When officers approached and knocked on the window, Krebs woke up, “made direct eye contact with the officers, and accelerated towards them,” police said.

One officer had to push away from the vehicle to avoid being injured, police said. Krebs then allegedly swerved in an effort to strike another officer before fleeing the scene, police said. His truck was located by other officers who later apprehended him. No one was injured and no property was damaged during the incident.

Krebs was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of attempted second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, two counts of attempted second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
