A lone teddy bear sits on the front step of the townhouse on Hawk Court in Severn where just 24 hours earlier, a woman who had recently moved into the complex turned up dead in her basement---a victim of murder.
"It's a tragic situation,” said a neighbor too fearful to give us her name, “I just give my prayers to the family and friends. She was a neighbor. She was a good person, and she's truly going to be missed."
Anne Arundel County police say a call for a suspicious death brought them to the house---a call made by the victim's father.
"The officers went downstairs and located a 29-year-old woman who was deceased at the scene and apparently as the result of a homicide," said Marc Limansky, a police department spokesman.
The victim has been identified as Jasmine Sherel Adams, and investigators found no signs of forced entry at the home suggesting there was nothing random about this crime. Police say an autopsy was done and it indicated that she died from multiple sharp force injuries to the upper body.
"Was there any evidence at the house of a fight or scuffle or things thrown about?" we asked.
"Just at the scene it was very clear there was some sort of altercation based on the injuries that she had and the scene around here," he replied.
We're told two children also live in the home, but they were away at the time of Adams' death---a death, which came to light when a father concerned for her welfare confirmed his worst fear when he finally found her.
"As a parent and an educator, I think that would be the worst to find something had happened like that," said her neighbor.
