CROFTON, Md. — An off-duty Anne Arundel County police officer who was being arrested for a DWI is now being charged for assaulting another officer.

On Saturday night around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to two-car crash on Riedel Road at Johns Hopkins Road in Crofton. Officers learned a car driven by Sergeant Kenneth Collier, a 21-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, had rear ended another car.

Sgt. Collier was off-duty at the time of the crash, but while police were investigating, they suspected he was under the influence of alcohol. When officers tried to arrest him, police say he resisted and assaulted them.

Collier is now being charged with Assault on LEO, Second Degree Assault, DWI, and Resisting Arrest. He will be suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police say the car in the crash was Collier's personal car, not a patrol vehicle. The other person involved in the crash was not injured.
