Drivers heading south towards Annapolis may need to reconfigure their routes for the next month, as lane closures affect a heavily-trafficked roadway.

The Maryland Transportation Authority announced single-lane closures for southbound I-895 at the I-97/MD 2 spur, south of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel toll plaza. The work will take place on the ramp from I-895 to I-97, with one lane of traffic open.

Drivers are advised to use the I-95 Fort McHenry Tunnel instead.

Work on the I-895 project will take place, weather permitting, from Monday, July 16 through Monday, August 13, following the schedule below:

  • Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., then again from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Saturday and Sunday from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning.
  • Lane closures may change and times may be adjusted based on traffic volumes.

The project involves resurfacing the roadway. Drivers are asked to stay alert, slow down, and use caution in construction zones.

For more information about potential construction or other traffic alerts, check MDTA's website, or follow the MDTA on Facebook or Twitter.
