A woman was sexually assaulted in Glen Burnie by a taxi driver from a local taxi service, Anne Arundel County Police said.
Police were notified of the alleged crime on Tuesday around 11 a.m. A woman said she contacted the taxi service earlier that morning. After her driver picked her up, at some point in the drive he pulled onto a secluded road in the vicinity of McGivney Way near Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. There, the woman said the driver forced her to "engage in sex acts against her will," police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evidence collection. Patrol Officers and Sex Offense Detectives began investigating. The local taxi company was identified and police learned who collected the woman's fare. The driver's description matched who the victim described as her assailant.
Shortly thereafter, patrol officers saw the alleged assailant driving on Crain Highway and pulled him over.
The driver was identified as 38-year-old Robert Peter Johnson, of the 700 block of Wimmer Road in Glen Burnie. He was arrested at the scene. Police learned he was an independent contractor for the cab company. The cab he drove was secured pending a warrant to search for further evidence.
Johnson was charged with second-degree rape, attempted second-degree rape, and second-degree assault.
