BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore City police are investigating a double shooting that injured an 11-year-old boy and his mother at a playground in South Baltimore Thursday night.
Police say officers were called to the intersection of Round Road and Seagull Avenue around 5:50 p.m., and when officers arrived at the playground, they found a 34-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son with gunshot wounds.
The woman and boy were both sent to a local hospital for treatment. Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said on Friday afternoon that the boy was shot in the hand and the head, and the mother was shot once.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this time, but Friday morning police announced they have made an arrest.

Nichole George, of the 900 block of Seagull Avenue, was charged with several counts of attempted first degree murder, first- and second-degree murder, and handgun violations, police said. She was taken to Central Booking Intake Facility.
Harrison did say they were able to find the handgun they believe George used because of a quick response by his officers. He says George was talking to the mother and son at the playground before the shooting, but they are still unsure why it occurred.
