BALTIMORE — Baltimore Police are investigating the death of a woman that resulted from an assault by her husband in 2018.

Police say in November 2018, officers were called to the 1700 block of North Bentalou Street when they discovered a 54-year-old woman who was assaulted. Police later identified her husband, 56-year-old Cleveland DeShields Sr., as the suspect in the incident.

The woman was sent to a local hospital for treatment and officials issued a warrant for DeShields' arrest.

Police report that on May 5, 2019 the woman passed away. Officials were able to determine through an autopsy that she died from injuries related to the assault incident and ruled her death a homicide.

DeShields Sr. has been charged with murder and assault. He is currently being held at the Central Booking and Intake Facility.
